Feb. 27th, 2005 10:02 pmfirst off: i am not pregnant. gestation is not an omega project.
i left work early Thursday with a daylong headache and an inability to concentrate. therefore i stayed home, and so did the incredibly kind C.
solcita, i will give you $10 on Tuesday.
Friday night was dinner at Panos, drinks at the Great Nabob, and DeVotchKa with C and
the_monkey_king. there were two openers and the first one didn't come on until 10pm. am i being an old lady wanting to have music at 9pm when my ticket says 9pm? despite the presence of a cello, Saeta is the worst sort of self-indulgent shoegazing crap. anyone whose most uptempo number is a half-speed cover of the Smiths' "Last Night I Dreamt Somebody Loves Me" with extra angst should stay home weeping into their black roses. my Greek coffee had completely worn off and my head was nodding when The Bad Things burst on stage complete with a paraplegic goth dwarf MC. they also have a singing saw. i can't make this stuff up. they had sufficient presence to wake us back up for the trumpet duet heralding the arrival of DeVotchKa. i <3 them. there was even someone else in the crowd conveniently calling for "Dangling Feet" so C didn't have to. (for the uninitiated, the song is a bouncy one, with an infectious melody and a whistled chorus, about hanging yourself because your girlfriend's cheating on you.) i think they sang everything i wanted to hear except for "Whisky Breath." we failed to connect with
butterflydrming, but otherwise it was a fine evening.
and happy birthday to
the_monkey_king.
Saturday was spent doing many of my favorite things. C took me on a surprise trip to Nielsen's Pastries (treats for me and the playtest pirates) on the way to the ferry. the novelty of the ferry doesn't wear off for me, but this was an entirely new experience, in a fog so dense i had no real indication when we got under way. i took the park route up into Winslow to drop a letter at the post office, and read the plans for a potential National Historic Site to remember the Nisei who were shipped to internment camps during WWII. according to the signs and brochure, the people from Bainbridge were the first group to be rounded up. they hope to actually get something built while the last internees are still alive. the rest of the day is encapsulated nicely here. Poulsbo is filled with vikingy goodness, and
mimerki is good for me. i got home in time to hear that all the various family birthday packages had reached their destinations and were very well-received indeed.
today i hailed the Brothership and ate waaaaay too much dim sum. high points included seeing
hgross and NF saving me some mango pudding. after a viewing of the geoduck tank at Uwajimaya, C and i split off from the group and a walk to the bus stop tuned into a leisurely stroll all the way through Pioneer Square and downtown to the monorail. incredible weather, great company. i took a nap, i watched the Oscars with beer and pizza. C and i teared up when Jamie Foxx talked about his grandma, because we're saps.
i wrote a terribly long response to
hakinimomma's questions about love from a few days ago, but i've got to get to bed. stupid job, making me get up in the morning.
