Either source is bad news. Though Sedna's said to have a mottled surface (How they've figured out the length of its day), and I remember Niven Stasis fields being uniformly silver. That rules out bobbles too. Hmm. Maybe an Outsider ship?
i don't think we have anything to offer them in trade, although the placement is right.
i seem to remember that the "sea statue" was a spacesuit with a stasis field. so it could be some artifact with a protective coating. i just imagine something that is oddly massive for its size, or in control of its motion.
