i can't believe it's only Sunday afternoon. if this weekend was SIFF, i sprung for the platinum pass, when all i really needed was a twenty-pack and Secret Festival. but hey, where [livejournal.com profile] frabjousdave is concerned, i don't know when to say no.

Friday started with me feeling lousy and staying home for a few extra hours of sleep before going in for an unmissable meeting. then the running began - home to wash up and meet with Matt for a pre-Iron Chef taste test, including two flavors of liqueur, before hopping back in the car to run to Ballard for C, and thence to the airport to snatch [livejournal.com profile] frabjousdave and straight to [livejournal.com profile] scarletbronte's to party.

[livejournal.com profile] scarletbronte is the most gracious hostess; this is a woman who doesn't drink but will happily stock a bar to die for in order to make her guests happy. not only that, but she even made latkes on the spot in honor of her guests celebrating Chanukah. M&C designed cocktails inspired by [livejournal.com profile] mimerki, [livejournal.com profile] scarlettina, and myself - an [livejournal.com profile] ironymaiden has whisky at its core and is a bit tart. hopefully we will see the photos of we three with our drinks soon. my dear Satan orchestrated a bit of well-intentioned mayhem - it seems that turning thirty continues to be a surprising experience for [livejournal.com profile] irishninja; i think i may have scared him a bit :) conversations were had, plots were hatched, more lj users were there than i can list.

Saturday started with a big box of Nielsen's pastries and green tea at the Baur Haus, followed by the arrival of [livejournal.com profile] mimerki, Jorgen, [livejournal.com profile] brainstormfront, and another Dave for xbox smackdown. [livejournal.com profile] shellyinseattle wisely ran errands while [livejournal.com profile] the_monkey_king schooled us all in Halo 2. first person shooters, not for me. but there was Soul Calibur II to be had (Yoshimitsu, hai!), as well as the joy of watching grown men who style themselves as enlightened playing Dead or Alive Beach Volleyball. i even managed to get [livejournal.com profile] frabjousdave to put Lilith down for most of the morning - no mean feat with open wifi networks everywhere, and the World of Warcraft.

then beers at the Elysian with a somewhat different cast of characters, then a rush home to change and grab C, Matt, and Lisa for Iron Chef Issaquah 2004. i was running about fifteen minutes late, which caused us to see the emergency vehicles go by - to miss the accident on I-5 we cut through town to 90 instead. it was a bit of an adventure, but happily all passengers took it in stride, and Matt declared that by lingering at the bar i had ensured that we were not present for said accident and thus saved his life. i <3 him.

[livejournal.com profile] hgross and [livejournal.com profile] evego throw one hell of a party, attended by folks of all ages and bents who like to cook and to eat - and who love [livejournal.com profile] hgross and [livejournal.com profile] evego. i only wish we could have stayed longer and had more time with the hosts, but C was worn thin from work, and Matt was exhausted after winning both his category and best in show, being crowned Iron Chef Issaquah 2004 winning with a scone/liqueur combo for dessert that best expressed the secret ingredient clove.

this morning was quiet coffee at Bauhaus, and in some ways was the nicest part of the weekend for me. [livejournal.com profile] frabjousdave, [livejournal.com profile] the_monkey_king, [livejournal.com profile] butterflydrming, Matt and i just had some coffee and talked for maybe an hour and a half; mostly about things like exotic bird eggs and potato gun engineering. that's what is best in life, Conan.

after that there were a good dozen of us at Sun Ya for dim sum - me, C, M&C, [livejournal.com profile] butterflydrming, [livejournal.com profile] mimerki, [livejournal.com profile] shellyinseattle, [livejournal.com profile] the_monkey_king, Pierce, [livejournal.com profile] spazzychic, [livejournal.com profile] aquatwo and his quiet daughter, [livejournal.com profile] shadowdaddy, and [livejournal.com profile] scarlettina. it turns out that [livejournal.com profile] butterflydrming is a bit of an expert and the food was excellent. and so cheap - we were all stuffed, and everyone throwing in ten bucks left a generous tip.

the trip to the airport was too short, and damn it, i cried.

:-(

I am sorry that you are sad. It's okay to cry, though.
