this year's favorite band - the "cowpunk" stylings of Dollarstore Cowboys.

favorite performers - a couple jugglers whose names, alas, i failed to gather. best diablo work i've ever seen, all while parodying the dance stylings of NSync. then there was the club exchange while while the catcher was leaping over the juggler.

best par-tic-i-pa-tion - a group voice lesson in the Intiman courtyard with the vocalist from Rouge, whose advice was excellent: know how the production you want feels, because often in performance you will be unable to hear yourself; singing is a gift that you give to others, so do not pull the sound back, but send it forward and out to the audience. it also allowed me to hear a bit of singing from a didgeridu workshop that i couldn't attend. points also for the west African dance workshop i caught the end of the other day. every woman needs to spend a little time shaking her ass...those moves always leave me feeling body positive.

i got a pair of those wraparound pants so that i can figure out how to make them. these are made from recycled silk saris and are reversible. C wouldn't let me buy more sarongs, so i will be wearing the current three until he is well and truly sick of looking at them. which could very well be his diabolical plan. what i confirmed from browsing the various clothing places is that my favorite things are simple in design, but made of interesting fabrics. so for the price of one velvet half-cape with tassel tips, i could buy one sewing machine that could produce a potentially endless supply of such items. for the price of the jacket C tried on today, i could have one with most of the bells and whistles. (sigh. he was turning heads and getting compliments from strangers today in his utilikilt and cotton blouse, the kind with laces at cuff and collar. swoon. the sewing machine would also make tartan kilt, or perhaps just a tartan with hidden snaps for convenience. mrrow. i tried to sell him on a dragon sarong today, but that was too far. we both loved the leather kilt, but $700 love? i don't think so.)

we ate way too much food that was bad for us, but whoever thought of food on a stick is a genius. i think all food is better on a stick, unless it's been batter-dipped.

we went to Shrek 2. cute. customers run from the soon to be crushed "Farbucks" to the safety of the one across the street. and stuff like that. not better than the original.

there were two SIFF movies this weekend - Jagged Harmonies and the secret festival. i think Jagged Harmonies is at least a half star better than what [livejournal.com profile] frabjousdave says. but he's just crotchety in his old age. we and many others (including [livejournal.com profile] scarlettina, [livejournal.com profile] the_monkey_king, and [livejournal.com profile] shellyinseattle) plied him with drinks to celebrate the big 4-0 on friday, and C and i had fun picking out pastries for the secret festival line on sunday. i look forward to another year of too much sugar.

i just found out my favorite monorail train caught fire :(

i picked up a copy of Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. i had to get help in the store locating it, since it was someplace i never go - i'm still trying to accept that i bought a book from the Romance section. i admit to being a hypocritical snob.
