i had a nice day Saturday at Norwescon. i gathered geeky info, met more people than i can remember names, ended up drinking too many G&Ts with
frabjousdave, and commiserating over physician-averse men with
scarlettina. i didn't realize quite how many people i knew who were there (and i don't know that many here, really) and how worlds do collide - like seeing
weahawk rubbing
scifigal's injured ankle.
Amber lost her badge. C went to tons of panels that were interesting yet adamant that no one makes money at writing. (he and i independently developed a hate for the same attendee. our interests seem to intersect, so we can only hope she will be on deployment next year.)
i witnessed a heck of a lot of schmoozing. Ben Bova is really charming and funny. Jim Baen made a statement that would have gotten him killed, had not half the women in the room been trying to sell him something. i think i'm interested in trying the immersion experience next time.
it also fueled my longtime desire to costume C as a satyr. i must look into the rules about what is acceptable. C's response was, "i think i'll wear the Black Russian today." i'm pretty thrilled about trying to conquer the leg engineering challenge. either platforms masked with curling hair, or something more elaborate based on cantilevered ski boots with a big enough hoof for stability. probably the platforms.
