Calling is good. Letters get great respect. It means you cared enough to take the time to sit down, pound out your thoughts, and put a stamp on an envelope.
Every time I've done that, I've gotten a personal response back. Sometimes it takes a while, but there it is. They figure you're talking crabbily to other people. If you care about something, I recommend you do it.
