don't look this up before you formulate an answer. (you may know this actor from The Music Man or perhaps if you are around my age, The Last Starfighter.)

Robert Preston: gay or straight?

i'd thought gay, from some time in the foggy past when i started identifying others' sexual orientations.

turns out he's probably straight. i figure if he was married to a woman for 47 years, into the late 20th century, he was probably interested in women.

we have Victor/Victoria playing in the background. C and i both love that movie (another of the innumerable reasons that i am married to him) and were casually looking up tidbits about the actors and director as we watched, pausing and sharing them. and C mentions the marriage in the IMDB profile.

what? Robert Preston is gay!

that's when C pointed out that i assumed Preston was gay because of Toddy. well, Toddy + Harold Hill. musicals.

except that The Music Man was his first musical.

that tears it. anyone around you could be straight. you never know.

I know him best from his role as Centauri in The Last Starfighter. :)

"I rant and I rave for the virtue I'm too late to save.
I smile, I grin when the gal with a touch of sin walks in.
I hope and I pray for Hester to win just one more 'A'.
The sadder but wiser girl's the girl for me. The sadder but wiser girl for me."

"Mothers of River City, heed that warning before it's too late! Watch for the telltale signs of corruption! The minute your son leaves the house, does he rebuckle his knickerbockers below the knee? ... If so my friends, ya got trouble!"

I had always been sure that Peter Lorre and Neal Sedaka were gay. (Well, not together. But you know what I mean.) Turns out they were both flaming heterosexuals. Peter Lorre is said to be the man who first cracked "If I said you had a beautiful body, would you hold it against me?" To a chick, I mean.

You mean straights could be anywhere? Now I'm never going to be able to look at anybody without wondering.
