because Washington state law mandates that sex ed be taught (along with encouraging abstinence), the Bush regime won't send any money for "abstinence education". i'm happy, kids are getting the information they need, and the feds can be all righteous about how they taught us a lesson by withholding the money. everybody wins!

Date: 2007-12-24 06:47 pm (UTC)In 1989, the small rural newspaper where I worked in northern California got the bright idea of doing a Mother's Day photo spread of the new moms at the local hospital.
The moms were thrilled by the idea, the health department (and the reporter) less so. It turned out all five Mother's Day moms were under 18 (the youngest was 15). Four were single; one 16-year-old was married.
So much for the Norman Rockwell angle.
