they said it was a bad time/for a turbo boost

we picked up some videos from Scarecrow to watch while we were packing for the trip. they have an area that has become my favorite, "Second Look", featuring some films and tv series from the collection for rental at a discount. it seems to be some combination of staff picks and stuff that has come off of new releases that they want to send out a few more times before they sell off extra copies. (i'm not the only person that likes it; it's often filled with the neon "sorry, out!" tags.) we picked up season two of Robot Chicken and proceeded to watch it all, and then again with the commentary. we'd never watched more than an episode or so on Adult Swim. even if you don't have access to Cartoon Network, you have likely seen the sketches on YouTube.

and then while we were on vacation season one and two were on sale. so consumption followed, along with more obsessive viewing. they write a lot of little songs for the show. i can't get the Knight Rider one out of my head. for those who are unfamiliar with the tone of the sketches, here is a clip about Care Bears...and ethnic cleansing. (not for the sensitive. perhaps this is better?) Seth Green is my age (another person *from* PA) and the content is built on the toys and television of my childhood. i have no idea what someone ten years younger or older would get out of it.

Yeah, it feels kind of weird to have a television show targeted directly at us. Granted, it's late-night cartoons, but still.

Heart Seth Green
Heart Robot Chicken

...you've not quite got a decade on me, but close enough - and it's still funny as @#$%. Then again many of those same toys/shows were still around - someone recently thought that HeMan action figures must have been before my time... uh, No.

Venture Bros is still my [AS] fav though.

I don't mind it at all. It's like being in on an inside joke.

Last season Suave threw out a "3-2-1 Contact" gag, followed by the aside, "Wow, the people who laughed at that are EXACTLY OUR AGE."

I love the "Second Look" section. I think I'll drop in there after War and Peace, assuming I make it in to SIFF Cinema for it tomorrow (technically today).

I almost always get the jokes on Robot Chicken, but I don't always think they're funny. Sometimes my reaction is "I see why this is supposed to be funny, but it didn't work for me." But overall, I find it hilarious. I'd guess that if I were 12 years younger than Seth Green, rather than 12 years older, I'd have a much harder time getting the jokes at all.
