Flickr now has "safety" levels. nanny Yahoo has turned them on by default. "unsafe" pics include the view from a friend's office, a picture of a concert, and a Sister of Perpetual Indulgence with a dog. in other words, if your picture's title includes a man's name or the word "drag", it's blacked out.

it took some digging to turn this crap off.

In partial defense of their rules, they have business presence worldwide, which includes countries where Internet prudery is the law. They specifically mention Singapore ("safe" only) and Germany ("safe" or "moderate"). Still, their preference for doing business in such countries spoils things for people elsewhere, which sucks.

I've used Photobucket, pretty much since I discovered its existence. I'm pretty sure it started as a hobbyists' public service, more or less, and as such I assume that it takes more of a hobbyist's style, even though it's a real business now. Moving stuff would be a pain in the ass though, if you have a lot of it. But you could switch future stuff to there, or some place like it, if you're sufficiently pissed off at Flickr.

is that one mine? i've just tweaked my general preferences, but couldn't find any settings for the individual photo. if it was mine, can you see it now?

apparently your name throws up warning flags :( i can see everything now. it's about setting my viewing preferences, and i've just removed all restrictions. (this isn't what i do for Google, but on Flickr i'm usually looking at my contacts list, and i wouldn't be horrified to see any of them naked unless they were also dead.)

i have a photobucket account, and also there's the LJ photo hosting, so it's definitely a possibility.
i really love the community aspect of Flickr and all of their features. i've noticed that the breezy writing style of the site has toned down (i'm guessing because it was impossible to localize) and there are some concerns about "private" photo thumbnails hitting yahoo image search. hopefully the bugs will get ironed out before i feel the need to ditch it. it really is a great service.

Sorry. It seemed like there was some special difference between naked people and naked dead people or between dead people and naked dead people, wasn't sure which.
