okay, i know we set up that bridge as dangerous, but killing Diana by hearsay? damn. that's shabby. i expect we'll see Stephen with West's widow soon enough, but Diana was my favorite woman in the cast (except for the brief appearances of Queenie Keith.) ow.
Yeah, it's pretty strange. O'Brian's wife died just before this, and I'm guessing that Diana's death and the distanced, expository nature of the telling was his only way of coping. This was almost the only misstep in the books; I want to see if it makes more literary sense on second reading, since he makes so very few.
Yeah you'll start seeing a lot of characters dying off with only a few lines to eulogize them. Diana was pretty bad ass though a wonderful compliment to Stephen's reserve.
