transcribed from my notebook...

Leonard Cohen I'm Your Man
a tribute concert cut with interviews with Cohen and his admirers, plus Cohen's artwork. i was thoroughly annoyed by a recurring overlay of red sparkles, until the end of the film when finally, FINALLY, the man himself begins to sing. he's standing in front of a curtain of red mylar, his eyes are so green, he is perfectly suave and composed, and he sings the first bars of the Tower of Song. the entire auditorium is entranced - and the film melts. our Len's face spreads around a bright white hole and everything turns black.

Seven Swords (US premiere)
the opening credits make a point of saying that the film is adapted from a novel. it felt like a Harry Potter film, where 800 pages are shoehorned into 2 1/2 hours and the holes are filled by the audience's foreknowledge. there was a point where i was sure they had skipped a reel. the choreography is excellent, and it ended with a sequel setup. the seven swords are all at least +5. oh, and everyone is 20+ Dex and Con.
