ironymaidensiff day one: Conversations With Other Women and The Proposition.
i have a good seat by some industry types. i like to listen. i don't remember much about this one except that it has a he said/she said thing going on and a split screen. we'll see.
very good. i don't want to spoil this one because part of the pleasure of the film is unwinding the relationships. the post-film q&a with the director was excellent; he grew up in a fundie household and wasn't allowed to watch movies. first films on laserdisc: Citizen Kane and 2001. first film in the theater: The Secret of My Success. (hee.) the woman in front of me was deeply offended by the film, and he was delighted to hear from her.
i wish i had C to do his memory magic to remember the line about wishing that life was like those high school physics films where the milk runs back into the pitcher and the glass unbreaks.
this one is related to In the Mood for Love in my mind although they have little in common that i can articulate beyond ambiguity and illicit relationships.
The Proposition is an australian western penned by nick cave. it is langourous and violent. i left wondering why the brits felt the need to tame the interior. the film is notable for oddball details like the royal mail coach drawn by four camels, and the everpresent flies. gods, i hope they were mostly fake. John Hurt is excellent.
today's line friend is married to a siff employee and has a similar schedule to mine, including secret festival. we talked about films from the past couple years, without violating our oath. good times.
i'm interested in seeing Conversations With Other Women on DVD so that i can pause and repeat some sections. it feels like one that gains from repeated viewing.
