job posting
this could be in Seattle or San Francisco. it's a nice place to work.
GENERAL SUMMARY/PURPOSE
The User Experience Designer acts as the primary advocate for the end user during the software development process. The UED works in collaboration with marketing, product management, and engineering to produce a software experience that best meets the end user’s goals by making the tasks required to complete those goals as easy and intuitive as possible. The UED develops this design through the following stages:
Inception:
User Requirements Gathering and Analysis – develop goals of the software through user research, psychological/social profiling, scenario building, and use cases.
Software Objectives – Work with business, engineering and other groups to document the product goals
Subject Matter Expertise – Gather, document and analyze the best information about the content to be included in the final product
Business Requirements (Advisory) – Develop requirements documentation related to how the proposed product will expand market opportunity, revenue, and customer retention.
Elaboration:
Interaction Design – Develop flow and path models that describe user tasks, and define how the user interacts with the software features
Interface Design – Design wireframes to identify all interface elements the user interacts with to perform tasks.
Information Architecture – Design information space to achieve an intuitive hierarchical, linear, and dimensional structure. The Information Architecture fuses the interaction design with the interface design to create a complete blueprint of the application, typically delivered as a User Experience Specification. The UES is used by the engineering team to begin authoring Functional specifications.
Content Requirements – Define content groupings to promote understanding – typically delivered as content/site maps and content requirements specifications.
Navigation Design – Define how the user moves through the hierarchical structure of the application
Visual Design – Collaborate with visual design as needed to define graphical user interface that best promotes seamless flow through the user tasks.
Construction:
Functional Prototyping – Develop prototypes as necessary to support the user experience design specification. Prototypes can be done throughout the software development process and take on different levels of fidelity, from paper to click-through or functional
Design Alternatives – Produce iterations, as needed on the Elaboration deliverables in response to engineering challenges as they are discovered.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions:
1. Working through the inception, elaboration, and construction phases described above, to develop interactive products 50%
2. Collaborate with Engineering, Business, Marketing, Editorial, and Creative as described above. 25%
3. Work with external agencies as needed to refine UEX design and coordinate this with internal initiatives. 25%
Non-Essential Functions:
• Help systematize and maintain digital assets such as IA models, page templates, etc. on Real Networks servers.
• Participate in creative team building activities
QUANTITATIVE MEASURES
A track record and examples of proven success are required.
