if you feel safe going to the movies right now, The Lost City is a delight. in a lot of ways it feels like a throwback - think Romancing the Stone or The Mummy - an adventure-comedy with some romance. basically if you liked the trailer it holds its promise.

all the named actors are fab, the Dominican Republic is gorgeous, and the supporting cast (and goat) are charming. it suffers from a little bit of looseness that i guess is just a thing now that movies are full of improvisation instead of polished dialogue, and the action direction could be better. but really we just laughed a lot and it was clear that the cast was having a blast. it will probably end up on Paramount+
*i, um, may have been so obsessed with Romancing the Stone as a child that i tape recorded the dialog. you know, so i could listen to the movie when i wasn't near a tv. *sigh* anyway i can't even think "Joan Wilder" without immediately filling in that line.
