totally adorable coming of age film (from the director of Bend it Like Beckham) set in 1987 Luton where a teen born in Pakistan discovers Bruce Springsteen and feels like someone finally speaks for him. I'm a sucker for people falling in love with music, and this film is full of lyrics floating in the air and rolling over bodies and exuberant singing along and dancing in the streets. (there is also Hayley Atwell being an awesome English teacher.) this has most of the beats you expect...he wants to be a writer and Dad can't understand, racism, a first kiss. but it's done with such unironic verve and heart that I can't help but love it. its release date is in August, do watch for it.
