Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Rachel Bloom deserves an Emmy for this past week's show. i know no one else here is watching it, but look, it's in the title - our heroine probably has Borderline Personality Disorder and it's an amazing engine. that pairing of real darkness with musical numbers keeps me coming back. this week was heavy with Rebecca hitting bottom, leavened with scenes of her co-workers struggling with her absence and deeply confusing/terrifying her temporary replacement.
bonus: you don't need any context to enjoy I Go to the Zoo*
what did you recently finish?
the latest season of GBBO: final verdict is that Channel 4 did not ruin everything forever, but i miss Mary and there i think there was only one history segment :(
as much of the current Jessica Jones as has been released to Marvel Unlimited. i like the writing and the art, but i ship Jessica/Luke hard and their conflict is no bueno.
after seeing Thor:Ragnarok, i caught up on some of the source material that i hadn't read:**

i'm looking forward to this week's last episode of Rebels before the holiday/Last Jedi hiatus.
i'm behind on The Flash, so i need to put some time in to catch up. i also want to get back to The Orville and guilty pleasure Riverdale.
*"I go to the aquarium, it's like a zoo for fishies"
**i feel like i've read a lot of Thor/Journey Into Mystery/Loki, and i have...but it's more Jason Aaron, Al Ewing, and JMS than earlier stuff. Hulk...well, i really like She-Hulk?
***of all things, a version of the "he's a friend from work" scene is in the book. please, someone take me to the alternate universe where the MCU after Avengers was leading to World War Hulk. what an amazing live action film Planet Hulk would have been, especially with Mark Ruffalo. i know there's an animated adaptation, but i'm torn about seeking it out.

after seeing Thor:Ragnarok, i caught up on some of the source material that i hadn't read:**
- first i read Walt Simonson's Surtur Saga. it's Very Eighties, but it also has some truly excellent page design. i loved the flashbacks to Odin's history and the incorporation of the Norns and sending Balder to secure assistance from the ladies. it also has a delightfully badass Korean War vet shooting fairies with his handgun and using his model-making skills to save the day. groanworthy: calling an issue Ragnarok and Roll. i wish i was kidding.
- then i read Greg Pak's Planet Hulk. wow, just wow, this is a great science fiction story with toothsome worldbuilding...and in true comics fashion, this story is largely in a bottle - Hulk has an epic life-changing experience that has no effect other than setting up a stupid event. (i'm reading the World War Hulk event now, but like all events it isn't holding my interest and i may not bother to finish it. events suck. let me say it again, events suck.) i'm glad i saw Thor: Ragnarok first, since it makes it easier to appreciate them separately.*** anyway, nifty aliens, complex social system, moral issues around cycles of abuse and slavery, big action, plus a little romance. recommended.
