I had a terrible morning, complete with being upset with C, misread schedule, late bus...I missed the last showing of A Brony Tale and the voice actress guest.

so I bought books at Elliott Bay and had an ice cream.

The Two Faces of January
Patricia Highsmith thriller that was almost entirely ruined for me by a bullshit ending. It felt so tacked on that I have to wonder if the filmmaker added it, or perhaps some meddlesome editor. But otherwise the movie was good.

Electro Chaabi
Doc about street music in Cairo in the midst of revolution. Very cool slice of life, much enriched by the director's presence.

Sunday was a better day.

Belle and Sebastian
Boy and his dog story set on the alpine frontier of France during WWII. Breathe easy, the dog does not die and the Jewish family makes it to Switzerland. Stunning scenery, darling dog, solid child acting. I was between two other ladies who were also crying every time the dog was in peril. Good times.

I am Big Bird
Squee. Lovely portrait of a nice guy, who happened to take a ridiculous number of home movies. Who was there. And his wife had Oscar the Grouch in her bag. So Oscar did some q&a. Do not discount early conditioning. I can't express how thrilled I was to see him.

Begin Again
I went because when I saw The Avengers I fell hard for Mark Ruffalo. But it turned out to be genuinely good and not the predictable pap it could have been. It captures the joy of playing music, and of sharing it with your friends and loves. It is very grounded in New York, the one where people live, not the one Woody Allen manufactures. Recommended.
