you flip the tortoise over on its back
Sep. 30th, 2007 11:15 amthere's yet another director's cut of Blade Runner coming out. i still don't own the film, even though i love it. (it came out the same year as ET, but only one of them went to video. i wonder if i would be an altered person if there was a video disk of a treacly Spielberg film in its place in my formative years?) unlike many others, i like the previously released director's cut, which retains much of the bleak feel of the source material, though it deviates quite a bit in the details. (before we all had the internets or the major PKD reissues of the 90s, i spent years hunting down a copy of that book.) i love the theatrical release voiceover, though. Harrison Ford is a creepy combination of movie boyfriend and cool dad...i could probably happily listen to him read me the phone book accompanied by some smoky saxophone.
since the reissue is going to run to five discs, i'm hoping they use some of the real estate to include all three versions. that would be worth having.
(i'm also amused at the way something so depressing and introspective has creeped into semi-popular culture: politicians take the Voight-Kampff test, lolbots.)
