you know what i hate?
Sep. 10th, 2007 11:23 amtaking yourself too seriously. Shoot 'Em Up is absolutely hysterical. (the link to rotten tomatoes shows almost exactly how many people get it.) the film is a Simpsons parody of an action film, taken to 11. like a gaming group sat around and said "you know what would be cool..." "and then..."
this clip sums it up. totally not safe for work, kids, suspension of disbelief...
i cackled and squealed and clapped at the end. this film has no redeeming value. it has plot holes you can drive a truck through. (it's a little better for every action film you've seen. shout outs include films like Hard Boiled and then veer into Raising Arizona and Bugs Bunny.) it has absolutely no shame and no redeeming social value, except perhaps for encouraging the consumption of carrots.
i love the cast for doing this. (Paul Giamatti! Clive Owen! Monica Bellucci and her breasts playing the same pouty Italian chick she plays every time.) i love the director for playing it just straight enough. totally awesome. not for everyone. (duh.) thanks to E for suggesting it.
