May. 13th, 2006 12:03 amcurrently i am listening to C play at being a British soldier. it's odd to find the sounds of distant gunfire comforting.
i'm played out, but happy. the pollen in the air puts my body on a sort of low alert level that is draining even if i can get unbroken sleep. i visited
scarlettina this evening, who made me a lovely dinner and shared a few episodes of the '80s version of the Twilight Zone followed by The Iron Giant. The Twilight Zone viewing was motivated by my interest in seeing Frostbite at SIFF - there's an episode called "Red Snow" with a related premise. it wasn't the best of the lot, but it's hard to beat a Yeats-loving hologram or Ron Glass as a demon.
so why was this the first time i saw Iron Giant? because i consider man-shaped robots an immediate black mark on any film. my prejudice only hurt me. it's just brilliant. the animation is masterful, as is the story. so yeah, Spanky the cat sat on my shoulder while i sat on
scarlettina's couch and mopped up my tears with a swath of toilet paper. it's definitely worth owning.
then i read while waiting for the bus, and had a lovely ride and walk home. my bus driver said good night as i stepped out. C had left the lights on, so the house was glowing as i walked up the driveway. he came home a few minutes later, and gave me a big hug. it's a nice night.
