my first visit to dorkbot seattle was a good time. we arrived at CoCA to find a crowd starting to gather around an installation of lego mindstorms robots and gadgets - Crate Contraptions and the Great Ball Contraption. meanwhile, the folks from Western Allied Robotics were loading in their small arena. eventually the presentations were set, and we found
raevnos and our seats. (it never ceases to amaze me how few highly technical humans can actually run a good powerpoint presentation. they weren't out last night.) the whole event seemed to be driven by a strong desire to share and feel some community, and i got a nice idea of the costs and trials of home robotics.
the evening ended with robot combat. just as cool as on tv, but with the added excitement of robot bits hitting the lexan right in front of your face.
i left on C's arm, flushed with the pleasure of seeing wanton destruction involving saw blades, to find a woman on the sidewalk outside arranging flowers. i have no idea why she was there, but she immediately asked me if would like a flower and handed me a spray of lilies complete with a tube of water. okay then.
