Q9 to Five
Mar. 14th, 2006 09:50 pm1. Why dogs?
i don't remember a time before dogs. dogs slept in my bed and shared my cookies and licked off my tears throughout my childhood.
butterflydrming wrote a while back about the differences between cats and dogs and the desire for a puppy. dogs radiate love. and enthusiasm. and they really like to be touched. i understand that other people don't want their pets to fawn on them, but i don't see why i would keep something in my house that doesn't snuggle. the biggest reason for me to buy a dwelling is to have a dog (renting is the only reason we don't have one now). dog=happy home.
i like to visit other people's cats, but i've never lived in a house with one and their behavior often baffles me.
2. Why Seattle?
when we decided to get outta Dodge we had two objectives: publishing/gaming and a theatre community. we were familiar with NYC and have several friends there. nice to visit, no desire to live there. no living below the Mason-Dixon line. no living anywhere flat. Boston and SF too expensive.
C and my brother had both been here and loved it; my first time was in a car full of our belongings. i like rain, water, and mountains. we researched like mad, saved up money, and we came. i continue to be amazed at how nice it is here. (for reference, the landscape from the opening of The Sopranos is very familiar to us.) it took a couple years to convince myself that i was allowed to stay.
3. What is the one European city you will never visit?
probably Madrid. i have little interest in Spain beyond cheese and The Shadow of the Wind (which is set in Barcelona).
4. Would you do >IT< over again?
yes, i think i would, but start sooner or quit earlier.
5. What is the farthest you have ever traveled for a meal/beverage/treat?
we used to go about thirty miles one way to get good soft-serve ice cream when i was a kid, but more recently i chose an airport in PA that would let me stop at an old haunt on the way to my parents'. that's a few thousand miles for a bowl of shrimp bisque and a pint of Yuengling.

If you find yourself in Spain, the place to head for is Granada:

Or, if you're in the mood to have your possessions stolen by monkeys, Gibraltar.

Date: 2006-03-15 11:11 pm (UTC)I agree about dogs. Kitten snuggles so much that she's a good substitute, and it's nice to be able to pick her up (I tend towards big dogs). But that's a lot of my motivation for wanting a house also- need yard for dog.

Date: 2006-03-16 03:33 pm (UTC)For me, it breaks down like this. A dog is loving, caring, affectionate and loyal. So much so that when you suddenly drop dead for no apparent reason, dog will wait by your side faithfully, knowing full well that you are dead, and you are not going to get up ever again. Most dogs will take a week to go 'off the leash" and eat you.
A cat is simply waiting for you to slow down. And often, they'll take a bite just to make sure they haven't missed the blessed event.
I like dogs, but what we have done to them makes me sad. Plus, I'm so highly allergic to them that they are like a walking, tail wagging respiration bomb. One that won't kill me, but one that decidedly lowers my comfort level and ability to breathe.
