chain petitions
Aug. 14th, 2004 08:29 amevery so often, i get some urgent political action chain-petition email. "congress is eliminating funding for PBS," that sort of thing. they tend to be bullshit if they didn't come directly from a political action group (like Human Rights Campaign, which does real ones. love them, give them your extra money.) or just achingly late. i can usually tell, but i've been on a bit of a news fast, unable to deal anymore with the reality of war, the anti-monorail campaign, and what i feel is a general rise in hate and ignorance in the country in the last four years. i know ignorance isn't a solution, but i'm coping this way temporarily until i can see that ignorant motherfucker out of the other Washington.
anyway, this one came yesterday, and it is too late, but it slipped right under my radar when it happened. ( from Snopes.com, trusty debunkers )
so we all need to pay a little more attention sooner. the power to appoint people to terms that last beyond the electoral cycle is one that is key to continuity and efficiency in government bureaucracy, and the most lasting legacy of any president.
