[livejournal.com profile] weezlgrrrl told me about promession (categories: death culture, recycling) today. it looks like it's economics more than environmentalism that will drive its adoption, but i hope that it's firmly in place by the time someone needs to dispose of me. i'd like a nice lilac bush.

for a while now i've been saying that i want to be composted when i die. this would certainly be a less icky way of doing that.

Hey, even an environmentally conscious world needs big paperweights:

And they also do kitties:

That's nifty. I wanted to be cremated and my ashes spread in an undisclosed space (the hubby knows, so all's well), but that is a very interesting alternative...

On a completely immature note - Cool! Liquid Nitrogen! Shattering! Oooooooo!

I'm looking forward to my eight year old's birthday party (she will obviously be turning nine) - we're going to have a science party! I already have a guy who is going to give me a bunch of dry ice, and another teacher friend who is lending us his magnet kit. I love fun science!
I wonder where I could score some of those packing peanuts? Excuse me, but I must go and google for a while.

Ooo! I saw a thing about that on Nova once! Very nifty!

How would you sign your organ donor card?

I think the human side of it is also a kind of research. There was a company down south (of me) that was looking for volunteers a few years back.

"Excuse me, are you planning on dying anytime soon?"
"Why, yes. Yes I am."
"Would you like to try our mummification technique - we expect it to be all the rage..."
"Hmm. Do I get my own pyramid? No? Can my wife use me as a coffee table? She's been wanting a new coffee table for quite some time now..."

I wholeheartedly endorse this product or event. Hell, I just want to watch it happen to somebody. That would be neat. If I can't have Federation disintegration technology, I'm all for the N2 bath.

But why wait? There's always eBay (http://search.ebay.com/search/liquid-nitrogen_W0QQfclZ4QQfnuZ1QQ)

You know, none of the dead people disposal methods really appeal to me. Because I can't really wrap my head around the not being in there part. I like this except for the having to shatter part. But it's nice not to pollute with my decomposing remains...

You can write N2 like this: N2.

We now return you back to your regularily scheduled program.

Wow, that's way better than cremation... although I've always wanted to be be shot into the sun, but that's likely a bit pricey.

And if you found that at all interesting you can write E=mc2 like this: E=mc2

That would make for an interesting CSI episode - kill the guy, shatter his remains, scatter the melting goo throughout the desert.

Sorry, I've taught chemistry and math, and so knowing how to do stuff like that is useful. That and I'm used to marking H20, when they mean H2O, wrong, so I don't like doing it. Professional hazzard I guess.

So, at my current weigth, less 70% for water, I'd be about 24500 grams. That's only $24,500,000 USD. Somehow, I don't think saving that much just to have my remains have a fun trip, makes sense.

I guess I'll have to have myself fired into the sun while I'm still alive. Anyone want to loan me some money for a fiery wake?

You could just have one piece of yourself shot into space... far more economically feasible, and you'd get to enjoy seeing yourself burn near the corona.
I guess we'd have to leave it up to [livejournal.com profile] jillybean74 to decide which piece it would be.

That's a lot of effort. And really, I blew my wad on the link.

But I still want the N2 bath, since my first choice is most likely unavailable.
