the subject of New Orleans came up at dinner Saturday (of course). i mentioned that the stories of firing on rescue helicopters were untrue. everyone rolled their eyes.

here's the quote i was thinking of, from the FAA admin. is failing to report a flight hazard to the FAA just another part of the conservative conspiracy to make the people of NOLA look like they deserved it?

I read a report today from Charmaine Neville who said that dozens of helicopters passed over and none of them seemed to be on rescue missions. She said that everyone was frantically trying to get the attention of the pilots, and firing off a weapon seemed like a way to let them know someone was on the ground in need of help.

i feel like someone thought it was a better news story to talk about people shooting their rescuers. and, of course, the act of firing a gun is inherently evil *rolls eyes and misses having venison in the freezer*
