AI Weirdness • Planet Earth From Above the terrain in MS Flight Simulator 2020 is generated by AI using satellite images and Open Street Maps (which is crowdsourced) so there are some strange monoliths where folks entered a wrong building height, among other things.

Is that the AI assumed that Buckingham Palace, as a large building in London, must be a sprawling block of flats?

that's the one. apparently they hand-modeled several landmarks but Buckingham Palace was not on the list. (if it was my project i would do a rolling release updating new parts of the world as they were finished instead of having to go back and patch so much. they could have generated new waves of interest with each new map. oh well.)
