50/366 Ready or Not

ironymaidenmovie night with C. the original plan was Knives Out, but it was only for sale. then we remembered that we had wanted to see Ready or Not and missed it in the theater.
i liked it. it's more of a survival horror movie than a dark comedy or a thriller, and if i was sure of that ahead of time we might not have chosen it. but i'm glad we didn't know; there were quite a few laughs and a distinct lack of stupid horror-movie behavior. the last scene of the film truly delighted me.
there's a wedding; afterward the bride becomes the quarry in a deadly game of hide and seek for reasons that unfold through the course of the film. as C said, it was good to be watching it at home. being on the comfy couch with some warm lights on took enough of the edge off that our wussy selves could deal with the wounds and gore. you know that she's the final girl and she's going to survive and foil the plot, the drama is in how it goes down and in learning what kind of people the family members really are. will her husband choose her or his family? are their motivations for the hunt valid?

C wanted to put something comforting on afterward, and then managed to choose an episode of Star Wars Rebels that features these giant spider-things. so i suspect we'll be having interesting dreams tonight.
