CBC, it's not just for curling anymore!

grubbstreet made my night.
the new Doctor Who is on CBC, and it doesn't suck. in fact, it's well-nigh brilliant.
but i'm a rabid fangirl. Doctor Who was on WVIA channel 44 every weeknight for, well, always. i anticipated the purchase of a new season from the BBC the way other people anticipated baseball opening (or something. i still don't get most sports.) i moved in a year or so from being a member for Sesame Street to being a member for Doctor Who. i suppose it holds the place Star Trek holds in others' hearts for me. yes, as with most Americans, my Doctor is Tom Baker. when the weather is cold enough, i wear the scarf. i had a tire pressure gauge that was my sonic screwdriver. the few times that i could get them, i put my Jelly Babies in a paper bag.
of course, when Sarah Jane Smith (my grandmother's name! it's a sign!) departed to be replaced by Leela of the Sevateem, i started making blowguns and darts with McDonalds straws and toothpicks. (and K-9 in cardboard, of course.) before there was Xena, Leela was tracking and killing from spacestations to Victorian London. it's hard these days to experience it as i did, properly cut up into half hour episodes, each ending in a cliffhanger. it meant that each story was film or miniseries length, full of often creepy exposition. it had terrible cheap effects, and the current show keeps a bit of that for style. it's not Whedon, but it has a certain clever charm that is irresistable to me.
the sound of the TARDIS revving up had me bouncing. wish i had thought to tape it.
