Norwescon report part the first
Mar. 28th, 2005 10:27 pmthe end of the day at work was stupid in ways i won't bother to describe here.. i raced around the house to pack, and then back out to Ballard for C. once we got on the road everything started to get better, as Mt Rainier rose ahead of us and we slipped into the empty HOV lane on I-5. the dinner crowd was bubbling away in the lobby of the hotel as we arrived, and so C took our reg forms along to dinner, while i stayed back for a moment to check in to the hotel (king bed after all! hot cookies!). then i ran into
livingdeadpan and we almost immediately found a parking space in the hotel lot and headed over to the restaurant, where our group was just about to be seated. dinner and the cornbread haiku have been chronicled elsewhere, but here's mine:
o golden delight
hotly anticipated
i ate the cornbread
we rounded out the evening with my first west coast Rocky. the facilities left something to be desired, and i am very rusty. still, i have different lines from the locals and made the virgins beside me squeal. perhaps i should see
livingdeadpan in his tighty-whities more often. (today C's lunch was served to him by Riff-Raff. Seattle is a very small town.)
what with this and that there was no sleep until after three am, and we were both bent on hitting the 10am Japanese sword demo Saturday morning. i was fascinated to watch the kata and see how they are echoed in Noh, it makes perfect sense, but i just hadn't put it together before. i would have written the entire con report tonight were it not for the research into a place to study in Seattle (the demo group were from Renton and the beginner classes are too early in the evening for me to ever make it south on time. bugger.)
coming soon - my adventures with "free high speed internet in every room" , completely missing BarCon, and the strangers in the hot tub, plus C's comments upon finally seeing a portion of Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow...
