i like to watch
C is reading Transformation. he has a learning disability, so reading is a methodical process, and he resents the way i rip through things and then recommend them, since he feels like he could never catch up. books are a big part of my life. i get restless and miserable if i run out, and i always run out (harry potter five in under 12 hours). his imagination is boundless, and it fascinates me that he can create so easily, but experiencing others' product is so deliberate. maybe that's part of why he can edit? i can't believe that i got him to pick it up, and i'm dying to talk about it, but i don't want him to stop reading. he's thoroughly intent, so much so that he isn't remotely curious about what i'm doing. occasionally he talks back to the characters, but mostly to the author. it's the joy and the curse of professional knowledge. i can't just watch a performance, and he can't just read a book. ahh, it makes the bad stuff truly unbearable, but when something is right...it's transcendent.
