throwdown

Had my first pottery class tonight. It’s in a warehouse in Georgetown.

  • there is also a wheel class and open studio in the same space. It’s busy!

  • there were a bunch of returning students who went off to do their own thing right away. No idea why you would spend the money on a class and not class (other than that class takes precedence over open studio for space and tools)

  • all the tables are counter height except for the wedging table, which I swear is for children. (Probably just normal table height but I don’t ever stand at a normal table) so right now I hate wedging, the getting air out of clay prep process, because it hurts my back

  • tonight was pinch pots and kurinuki (carving from a block). the idea is to introduce techniques and practice them each week, then apply them to pieces we want to keep.

it’s a weird combination of regimented (cleaning, labeling, safety talks) and unstructured/vague. I am just now old enough to speak up for myself and make use of the instructor.
