I'm terrified of clowns and would never have stopped screaming.

the reason I was not terrified was because a clown let me touch his hand and feel that he was a regular person in a costume. made a huge difference (I was with my parents at the time; I was also terrified up until that point.)

I knew they were people under there (our local clowns are super cheap). I think the idea that somebody would choose to do that and do it so badly is part of what frightens me.

I went into a restaurant once and the local clown alley took the giant table next to me to have a meeting. Did you know clown insurance is a thing?

makes sense to me. I'm sure they get kicked and hit all the time (in addition to the hazards of doing physical comedy).

Apparently it's liability insurance for if someone is allegedly hurt by a clown gag. Like they take a piece of thrown hard candy to the eye.
