last night C and i went to see Jesse Cook at the Triple Door. venue was amazing, as always. i think this was the first time that we went to see a band that one of us found first on Rhapsody. the backing band was excellent, especially the Cuban percussionist. (everyone in the band was dressed in black and had dark hair, a dark hat, or both. Cook is a white guy, in a white shirt and jeans, and his hair is light brown. it means he's the focal point on stage, even at a venue without the Triple Door's lighting rig. good costume design.) i loved watching an extended call-and-response between Cook slapping his guitar and the percussionist on cajón. and there's no vocalist with the tour, which delighted me.
Cook did a Q&A period while he paused to tune before doing a solo set. when asked, he talked a little about his guitars; the fine one that he uses for recording is from Spain. recording is about all he does with it at home - he says it hates the weather in Canada, so it spends a lot of time in climate-controlled storage. hrm.
