i've been curious about the Big Finish audio plays, but i didn't know they were a thing until after 2005 (when one could argue that they were no longer needed) and then i was always put off by the cost.*

but hey, [personal profile] circular_time did a lot of work to collect the ones that are on Spotify and provide links. also, since i already have Napster, it turns out there are quite a few there as well.

*i know this is silly, i have a nice job and should pay for things i want to support. and i do, but "new" types of things take a while to get on the list of things i can buy. inside i'm still an unpaid intern living on costco canned fruit and the change in the couch cushions.

i finally got time to watch Thin Ice last night. so good. Bill is on her way to becoming my favorite companion of the post-2005 era.

What are you currently consuming?
MST3K on Netflix. Two episodes in, it's better than it has any right to be.

what did you recently finish?
I haven't finished anything per se. but as was foretold, I was able to watch a new Doctor Who episode called "The Pilot", which I largely enjoyed, and the pilot for Class, which was underbaked and someone with more time on their hands can tell me later on if I should try again. new companion Bill is fab, and I continue to love Peter Capaldi as the Doctor in spite of feeling generally meh about his stories.

What will you consume next?
i'm several episodes behind on Agents of SHIELD, looking forward to alt-universe shenanigans.

quote from a friend who is re-entering the dating pool:
every woman in Seattle is either on Machu Picchu, rock climbing, or coming out of a TARDIS. and they all knit. i guess i need to watch Doctor Who.*

on a somewhat related note, C and i recently watched Mike Magee's Day Off, which is incredibly well-done and the best thing since The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot. it amuses me to no end that my sportsball fandom is the one i can't fully share with my RL friends or coworkers.

our July camping trip this year included emergency relocation due to the creek rising and creating a brand new waterfall through our usual campsite. fortunately this happened during the day, and with the help of the rest of the party we managed to go from "i think this might flood" to full relocation and reset of three tents in about 20 minutes, all before any damage was done.

no, there was damage: we typically stock a weir in the creek with drinks (glacier runoff makes a great cooler) and the canned beverages were carried away. pictures with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one and a normal water level for comparison.

and pirate E's parents managed to escape their truck before it exploded.

ultimately a good time was had by all, and i have taught another person that properly prepared beets don't taste like dirt.

the flowerboxes are thriving.

work is very busy for me. work is slow for C, so he's on a new clients/new contracts campaign. on one hand, it's excellent to see all the cool things he's done lined up on his resume, on the other hand resumes are hard and horrible and i feel like writing/editing professionals have an extra burden when it comes to polishing the damn things. *shudder*

i finally finished spinning some fiber i bought at Madrona, and knit it into a hat that was just the thing for camping. (i seriously considered taking my wheel, because busting it out by the campfire would have been badass, but we agreed that puffy fiber and the occasional bit of flying ash and leaf litter and bugs really don't mix.) camping did allow me to finish the stupid socks that are too narrow for my feet, so those are heading [livejournal.com profile] varina8's way soon. (i did try them on at regular intervals and everything seemed fine. but after i turned the heel i realized that they were not going to be for me. if i frogged them at that point i was going to be less happy than if i gave them to someone with different feet. i AM the boss of you, stupid skinny socks.)

*someone on OKCupid lost interest in him, based on his Doctor Who deficiency. I LOVE THIS TOWN. don't worry, he went home with DVDs.

for [livejournal.com profile] mrdorbin, in reference to this.

"Show me on the screenplay where Russell T. Davies touched you." - C

i love Doctor Who with all my heart. i welcomed the relaunched series with open arms, and i thank RTD for it. but i still have to hate him. we had some good times, but he likes to publicly humiliate my favorite franchise.

RTD isn't all bad as a show runner, but he's directly responsible for the worst writing and story arc decisions. spoilers ahead: ten things i hate about Who )

this is the super-short version. happy to discuss more, provide other examples, talk about the flaws in Casanova and Torchwood...

the BBC is doing a Doctor Who advent calendar as a run-up to their Dec 25th showing of The Runaway Bride. every day in December there's another treat. today's is video of the recording of the DVD commentary for New Earth (first episode of series two), complete with David Tennant in a gray hoodie speaking in his regular Scottish accent.

we watched SciFi last night while sorting papers (keep-shred-recycle) and folding clothes. mostly this was for a re-viewing of Tooth and Claw, and a hate-lust relationship with BSG.

but the real prize of the evening turned out to be Heroes. we only have cable because of the internet, and we rarely turn on the television, so i've heard almost nothing about this one beyond seeing headlines on SciFi Wire. it's smart and compelling, and the premise is waaaay cool. i might even tape the normal showing on Monday. we'll see if i'm just charmed by the Japanese guy or if it has real staying power.

Tooth and Claw spoilers )

BSG spoilers ) i give them two more episodes to not fuck it up.

the BBC is doing little teasers for the upcoming Season Two episodes called ::cringes:: Tardisodes. this one runs like a promo for the planet they'll visit in the first episode.

they've also posted a new trailer full of visual spoilers spoilery )

(and no love to CBC for holding back until hockey is over.)
